A Day at the Fish Markets

C97.1s  C97.12s   C97.16s

Ecopix visited the fish markets of Moreton Bay, Queensland on assignment, and came away with some whoppers on film.

These sorts of pictures are handy to illustrate natural resource use and management, as they are visually strong, and everyone has an interest in keeping fisheries sustainable.

The Woodlands of Stormy morning below the Buckland TablelandCQ87.2s  Central Queensland's Highlands.
Ecopix was sent to a remote and ruggedly beautiful part of Queensland's Central Highlands to photograph the landscape and wildlife (see story "On Assignment" in the Ecopix photowild magazine). While in the area our photographer gathered many images suitable for general use, illustrating nature in all her glories, and some of the land management problems common to much of the bush.

These are ideal for that hot topic - land clearing. With Australia now ranked 6th in the world for native vegetation loss, just behind places like Brazil and Indonesia, and with 75% of that clearing happening in Queensland, there is quite a story to be illustrated.

These pictures give some idea of what is lost, putting the media's statistics into real perspective. When they say "32 cricket grounds of inland woodland are lost every hour", this is what they are talking about.
